Spring Revitalization



It’s already March?!

It’s getting warmer here in Colorado and for me, that means bust out the spring/summer clothes and slowly start swapping them out in my closet. It hasn’t been a rough winter here at all,ย  not like how it has been back in the State where I was born, Michigan. Even with the lack of cold weather and snow, I’m still counting down the days until Spring arrives.

To me, Spring brings a rebirth of many sorts. Not only does nature arrive on cue (sometimes……, it snowed in Denver at the end of May last year! lol), but also something deep inside us awakens. Winter brings a time of hibernation of not just our energy levels but also our mind. So I look to Spring with open arms and shorter hems on my clothes :), because it makes me happy.

With the new season quickly approaching, who feels they need to do a little Spring cleaning in their closet? I admit, there are sometimes I may have some articles of clothing I have kept for a lonnnnggggg time that could be donated to make some space and clear unnecessary room being taken up with clothes I haven’t worn in the past year! That’s where I have to step back and realize I’m hoarding, and others could use what I am not.

So it’s time to dust the cobwebs off in your ol’ noggin (and your maybe in your home, lol!) and take a deep breath of fresh air and revitalize yourself!

This will be my first spring, and summer, in Colorado, and I am looking forward to it! With all the outdoor activities available just outside my door, and the lack of humidity (thank God), nothing stands a chance against me and my curly hair!

I cannot WAIT for these upcoming months. I have a few things in the mix and on the calendar. There will be places I’ll be traveling, events happening, and new experiences to be had! I look forward to writing about them, and sharing it with all of you!

So raise a glass to things that continue to make us grow for the better. It’s a process that lasts our whole life.

Self Love

Self appreciation, body positivity, and self admiration.

Just think, what if we spent our attention on the things we love most about ourselves, and passed the good vibes around! I attended a Barbells & Brunch ladies day. Women were invited to attend a two hour session of weightlifting education, in a circuit style training. Then once the 5 circuit was complete, there would be brunch for all the ladies to attend with the dietitians, trainers, and graduate students ranging in Masters in exercise science and Dietetics.


This event was held to assist women with their time in a place that can, for some, seem very overwhelming. Sometimes women believe cardio is the bees knees and that’s what they do every time. I am not saying cardio isย  bad by any means, but there is a whole other world in the gym that the amount of women can sometimes fall short on. This world is weightlifting. I absolutely love it. So this type of teaching wasn’t out of my realm, but there are women that either are self-conscious, ignorant of the equipment/moves, or believe that they will get bulky. That is far from the case! There are vast physical, and health, benefits from lifting, and YES, you CAN lift heavy! That’s when you start seeing growth in all the right places ๐Ÿ˜‰ Your body is strong and beautiful! It will be able to do things you didn’t think possible, a lot of the negative thoughts of “I can’ts” are in your mind.

Working out should be a celebration of what your body can DO! Not punishment for what you ate.ย

What I loved about this event was that is was a simple two hour session, hosted by ALL women, for women. The gym was shut down so there was access to all the different types of functional fitness machines/equipment. We had 20 minutes at each station, and I made sure to get my workout in! The stations included bench-press, squats (back and front), deadlifts, shoulder-press (seated and standing), triceps/biceps (rope). We touched on the basic functional moves that you do everyday (that you may not even realize), that are moves you can focus on in the gym and build that muscle! Since you do these movements anyway, it’s that much more important to make your body strong to keep up with those movements and build your bone density!

At the end of our workout we all met up to eat nourishing post workout food. The fascinating thing about food and your body is that you can get all the nutrients you need, for growth, and energy, simply by eating. The Dietitians made a Caprese Egg Muffin. These were delicious and honestly, you can throw whatever you want in them and whatever is in your fridge! The best thing about these is that you freeze them too! Make them for a quick breakfast through the week when you need something fast or you hit the snooze too many times ๐Ÿ˜‰ we’ve ALL been there.



Other than the egg muffin, we got very soft bread with avocado to spread on it. You may say this is basic, because it almost has a cult hipster following, but this two ingredient meal is very good for you! The carbs for your body to create energy, and all the good fats in avocados, among all the other things! Then we sipped down an immune boosting smoothie (my second smoothie of the day at this point, haha!). I don’t know about you all, but I LOVE smoothies.

All in all, it was a fantastic day and I appreciated all those women taking time out of their weekend to look out for other women who need a little push into something they aren’t sure of. We all need encouragement sometimes, and this was just that. It was awesome seeing all the different types of women who were there and willing to be vulnerable and show up by themselves (me included!) to learn some new things. That is what it’s all about, learning. I will never turn down an opportunity to learn something new and gain new insight into things.

Curling & Commentators

Recently, I decided to surprise my fiance with taking him Curling. He has mentioned many times how he would love to try it, and thankfully living in Olympic city, it’s pretty obtainable. I just searched it because I heard they have classes available to the public. Low and behold I found it, and we signed up. His birthday is coming up so I thought it would be perfect. I decided to go earlier than his b-day, and I couldn’t hold the surprise in too long….so I told him. Let me just say his smile that came on his face after, was contagious. It was stretching ear to ear.



I learned so much! The history behind it, their terminology. I NEVER realized the rocks weigh 42 pounds! I was shocked. It makes sense but I didn’t realize it would weigh that much. Once you’re on the ice and actually curl, it isn’t as heavy as 42 pounds may seem to sound.

He was so pumped! I was excited to try something new too. That’s always the best, trying something new with your significant other. You learn more about one another and grow together. Plus, you figure out things about yourself!


I was ready for the runway wasn’t I?? haha. Well, it’s cold in the arena and they tell you to wear loose clothing that you can move easily in. If anyone has been watching the Olympics you see how low and stretched out they are when they’re curling, so this outfit was comfy and perfect ๐Ÿ™‚

We only got to play two games, curling only one rock each due to the amount of people at the class, but it was worth it! Our instructor mentioned they were thinking of creating an actual arena JUST for curling, since the Olympic Training Site that you see in the top photo, they share the ice with MANY different groups of people/sports. So getting that ice time is difficult. I hope they do! You may see me in the 2022 Winter Olympics (sike!).


ONE THING I want to touch on, if anyone has been following curling in the 2018 Olympics, you may know the few teams, mixed doubles, that were in the running for gold. Well, it was confirmed Canada won gold, which wasn’t a shock to me! They spoke on how well Canada is at our class. Our instructor was from Canada and said in their P.E. classes throughout school they would curl! That was apart of their gym class. So it only makes sense.

BUT, what I wanted to touch on (finally), was how I get so irritated when commentators and reporters can sometimes seem to only notice a female athlete’s attractiveness. If no one is watching the Olympics or knows what I’m talking about, the OAR, Olympic Athletes from Russia, there is a married couple for their mixed doubles. The woman, just so happened to be brought up in a conversation on how she either looked like Megan Fox or Angelina Jolie. Not that she is a great athlete, that her and her husband are doing well, her back ground on how she started curling, her stats, etc. Just her looks. It’s not the first time I noticed it, that is why it irritates me anytime I hear it. Very rare if at all when they comment on a man’s looks, especially if he is an athlete. They just touch on his skill. But not for this woman athlete curler.

JUST APPRECIATE A WOMAN AS AN ATHLETE. Appreciate her talent. Show off her skill. I’m just tired of women athletes being deduced to their physical appearance. #Seeher (hashtag commemorating how we should see these young women and women athletes).

Olympic City

Happy Sunday everyone! I haven’t posted in a while. I’m trying to get into the swing of my new schedule with school.

With football being over, my current weekends are filled with the Olympics. So I’m not quite sure what will happen after they’re over. I’m sure Basketball will be on along with creating brackets for March Madness. With all the politics and drama surrounding the Olympics lately, I wonder how many people are actually watching them. One of the many awesome reasons Colorado Springs is a nice place to live is that the Olympic Training Center is here! With the high elevation and access to a good section of the Rocky Mountains it only seems fitting that many sports have access to their athletic needs. This past weekend downtown Colorado Springs had an Olympic Downtown Celebration. It just so happened it was one of the coldest nights in the Springs in a while. There was a live broadcast of the opening ceremony, multiple stands set up with activities for kids, Olympic trivia, a beer garden and an ice sculpture from the Ice Festival in Cripple Creek.

Those are just to name a few of the activities available. Craig happened to win one of the Olympic trivia stations and could have either won a key chain or a sticker and he choose the sticker, clearly. One of the questions was which country doesn’t have an Olympic team, Aruba, Jamaica, or Bermuda? [drum roll]


So last night USA received the first gold medal, by a 17 year old snowboarder from Colorado! How amazing is that? Not just because of his age but of course winning gold for the USA is legit, and being the first one is something to be proud of.

Craig and I had a few friends over last night to watch the Olympics and we all were asking what event would you do if you could? Then we talked about how we would pay money to watch normal people trying to do these events rather than the athletes who train for it their whole lives. I would pay good money to watch that. But if I had to choose, I would participate in the Bobsleigh. How fun would that be??

I hope everyone gets the chance to watch the games at some point and hopefully we win a few more medals!



Chick-fil-A on Sunday?

Hey everyone! I hope everyone had a productive week. Today was my cleaning day, so my fiance and I deep cleaned all morning and once it’s over it’s a pretty good feeling having a clean home! Can I get an amen?

So I had thawed some chicken and was wanting to remake the Chick-fil-A nuggets and the Chick-fil-A sauce. The plan to make this was Thursday night, I was going to fry the nuggets and all would be well. NOT. By my own foolishness I ended up burning my hand from HOT OIL.


Thankfully, it was ONLY this. It didn’t blister right away but boy, did it hurt. The worst pain I felt that day was after keeping it in cool water for maybe too long,ย  I realized that at one point in my night I HAD to take it out to dry it and let my skin breath to start the healing process. Let me tell you….that was some of the worst pain I’ve felt in a while. After the initial shock of letting the burn start it’s toll of healing, about an hour later with some Ibuprofen, the pain lessened and I was able to sit still and not fidget or maybe even cry…..don’t judge me.

So today, I decided to tackle the beast again, I was going to try and fry some chicken nuggets,ย  but I found out my fiance got rid of the oil I had saved. He claimed it was for my safety….

Instead of frying, I decided to go the other route, I baked them. I really was looking forward to them being fried, but I wasn’t disappointed at the end result of me baking them.


I cut up the pieces of chicken into small pieces, and put them in a bowl. In another bowl I used one egg, whisked it up, then poured it in the bowl of the chicken pieces. Got them fully covered, then put the pieces, in small groups, into a bag I had filled with flour and spices. I didn’t have any gallon bags, so I used sandwich bags which of course took a little longer. Before I put them in the oven, I sprayed olive oil over the top layer of all the nuggets to get that crisp coat once it was all done. Put the oven at 400 degrees, 20 minutes total, flip over half way through, spray again with oil at the 10 minute mark, then when the timer beeps you’ll get these beauties! Pretty tasty. BUT THE BEST PART is the dupe Chick-fil-A sauce I found a recipe on and tried it out.

LET ME TELL YOU, it was pretty darn close. It wasn’t as thick as the actual sauce, but the taste was spot on. My only thing that I liked about this idea was that with this recipe, you know EXACTLY what is in your sauce, verses the long list of small lettering on the small packaging telling us in the length of a paragraph what is in that sauce.


The ingredients shown are what is in the sauce. Mayonnaise, mustard, lemon juice, honey, and bbq sauce.

  • 1/2 C Mayonnaise
  • 2 t mustard
  • 1 t lemon juice
  • 2 Tb honey
  • 1 Tb BBQ Sauce ( I wouldn’t recommend a honey BBQ just because you’re already using honey)

(t=teaspoon, Tb=Tablespoon)

Whisk all these ingredients in a bowl, and wala! A pretty amazing dipping sauce for anything of your choosing! ๐Ÿ˜‰ You’re welcome. Friends and family are sure to love this sauce come tomorrow.



Stay glowing Ponyboy

I apologize for being quiet for the past week and a half. I traveled for the holidays and it seems once I returned back home and settled in, my immune system decided to settle as well. I got sick and then after that I got conjunctivitis (pink eye). I just couldn’t win. Thank God my sister is a PA so she knew some stuff to help me heal up right away. So while recovering from that, my days have been filled with football playoffs and curling up on the couch, waiting for my school semester to start. After this Monday, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, my classes will be starting and I am so excited for that! It is a little interesting being on the older side of the average student, but I still enjoy learning and I don’t pay too much mind to it. I thouroughly enjoy school, I believe it is something not be taken for granted. Education, and having it quite readily available, is a blessing.

So I wanted to share a few of my favorite pieces of makeup in my makeup bag since I’m going to be going back to school! (Cue all my upcoming photos and blogs to be about it)


PEEP that GLOWWWWW. I LOVE this highlighter. Before I got it, I was completely ignorant on what to use, or even how to use it. But we all need to start somewhere, right? It makes you thankful that it’s as easy as going on Youtube and finding many different types of women doing their makeup and showing you HOW to apply it. FOR FREE! Think about how it used to be before the internet….a longer learning process I’d say!

If you notice I use an e.l.f Poreless Face Primer I put this on before my tinted moisturizer. It does exactly what it’s name claims, it fills pores and gives a smooth look. I use this mostly on my nose, I don’t have too big of pores but my T-Zone there is oily.

I am not a fan of foundation, for me it’s just too heavy and I don’t have a need for thick full coverage. So a tinted moisturizer with some SPF is important!! This Maybelline Dream Fresh BB tinted moisturizer does just that! I love the light coverage so my skin feels like it can still breath but at the same time gives me an all over coverage (again, with my sister being a Physicians Assistant, she worked in a Dermatologist Office and has seen it ALL!).

I normally don’t have dark circles under my eyes, my sister did because she had more olive undertones in her skin so they showed more. But I still like a lighter coverage under my eyes to assist with the contour. This product is great, it’s really good for those trying to hide their dark circles! Maybelline Instant Age Rewind. It’s a concentrated formula for instant coverage. I’m almost out in this picture but I plan on getting more!

I will forever use this product for my eyebrows if my bank account can handle it, lol. Anastasia Brow Wiz pencil is my ish. I also have the Brow Dip and brush to go with it. Which ever style you prefer, pencil or dip, I highly recommend Anastasia products.

This mascara my friends, is the best in my book. I have used Maybelline Voluminous Original since high school and I’ve never looked back. I’ve tried a few more expensive brands but this brand and kind never fails. Plus it’s cheap so that makes everyone happy!

I’ve also used this bronzer since high school, only because I would steal and use my sisters makeup all the time. She would used this and it has great reviews, Benefit Hoola Bronzer.

I added most of my staple items in the photo, but I didn’t include my eyeshadow pallettes. I have multiple ones that I swap out daily. It all depeneds on my outfit really. What are some of your favorites? Or what are some dupes you all know? I love when you like a color for a MAC lipstick but you can find something similar for a lot cheaper! Any rituals you do while doing your makeup? I want to hear all about them!

Oh yeah, and if I had to choose who to root for during these playoffs, only because they are in my conference, I’m going to have to say the Vikings! I just don’t know if any of these teams going on to the next round are a worthy component against the Patriots.

Real Talk

I burdens me, yet makes me thankful, to say this post was inspired by someone’s death, because that’s exactly what happened. I was scrolling through Facebook during the National College Championship and came across a post from a 27 year young woman from Australia who passed away recently due to a rare bone cancer. She happened to write a farewell letter, not because she was making her peace with death, but because she wanted to get her voice out to the world even if it meant her time was coming for the final goodbye. Her message was simple, yet spoke to me in a time in my life where my reality was setting in. This is where the title of this blog post comes into play.

I had this vision of starting this and possibly having some kind of reflection of other women I see that fill my feed on Instagram, but if I followed suit I would be living a lie. Yes, these posts are nice and a lot of them involve some kind of new clothes, style, or brand. These things do make many happy and it’s what people strive for. These things also pay the bills for people and are a life source. I understand these things fully. If that is what you seek here, I apologize but that is something I cannot give. I do not see that as an important factor in my life. I do enjoy the clothes I have, do not get me wrong. I’m very thankful to have things to clothe my back, which is more than some have. I am not the person who goes shopping consistently or every weekend. I could tell you right now I had Plato’s Closet deny my clothes because the label showed they were an older “series” of clothes. That’s because when I get clothes, I keep them for a long time, cycling the seasons. Then I donate whatever I realize I don’t wear.

Please don’t think I’m going to be judgey (not a word, but y’all understand)! I love how we can all be different and we’re all on our own journeys of life. Don’t get me wrong, I like looking at new outfits or different people’s style. I enjoy seeing it as much as anyone else sometimes, but I am explaining how DOING that is not me. I must be true to myself. I must be “ruthless for my own well being” which is what that woman wrote in her letter, and resonated with me.

So knowing that and if you continue reading, thank you :).


Today was a beautiful day in Colorado. Where I live, it was almost 70 degrees. With the amazing weather, for it being a week into January, the only thing I wanted to do was get outside. So I worked out (did shoulders), went hiking with my pup, played some baseball, then hit the tennis ball around for a little bit. Of course I finished that off by having a beer at a brewery. All in all, today was amazing. I enjoyed the moments as they came. My fiance was kind enough to catch some photos, but in all, I relished in the present, and I was thankful. It doesn’t need to be Thanksgiving for any self-reflection of what you see as important to you.
