Stay glowing Ponyboy

I apologize for being quiet for the past week and a half. I traveled for the holidays and it seems once I returned back home and settled in, my immune system decided to settle as well. I got sick and then after that I got conjunctivitis (pink eye). I just couldn’t win. Thank God my sister is a PA so she knew some stuff to help me heal up right away. So while recovering from that, my days have been filled with football playoffs and curling up on the couch, waiting for my school semester to start. After this Monday, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, my classes will be starting and I am so excited for that! It is a little interesting being on the older side of the average student, but I still enjoy learning and I don’t pay too much mind to it. I thouroughly enjoy school, I believe it is something not be taken for granted. Education, and having it quite readily available, is a blessing.

So I wanted to share a few of my favorite pieces of makeup in my makeup bag since I’m going to be going back to school! (Cue all my upcoming photos and blogs to be about it)

PEEP that GLOWWWWW. I LOVE this highlighter. Before I got it, I was completely ignorant on what to use, or even how to use it. But we all need to start somewhere, right? It makes you thankful that it’s as easy as going on Youtube and finding many different types of women doing their makeup and showing you HOW to apply it. FOR FREE! Think about how it used to be before the internet….a longer learning process I’d say!

If you notice I use an e.l.f Poreless Face Primer I put this on before my tinted moisturizer. It does exactly what it’s name claims, it fills pores and gives a smooth look. I use this mostly on my nose, I don’t have too big of pores but my T-Zone there is oily.

I am not a fan of foundation, for me it’s just too heavy and I don’t have a need for thick full coverage. So a tinted moisturizer with some SPF is important!! This Maybelline Dream Fresh BB tinted moisturizer does just that! I love the light coverage so my skin feels like it can still breath but at the same time gives me an all over coverage (again, with my sister being a Physicians Assistant, she worked in a Dermatologist Office and has seen it ALL!).

I normally don’t have dark circles under my eyes, my sister did because she had more olive undertones in her skin so they showed more. But I still like a lighter coverage under my eyes to assist with the contour. This product is great, it’s really good for those trying to hide their dark circles! Maybelline Instant Age Rewind. It’s a concentrated formula for instant coverage. I’m almost out in this picture but I plan on getting more!

I will forever use this product for my eyebrows if my bank account can handle it, lol. Anastasia Brow Wiz pencil is my ish. I also have the Brow Dip and brush to go with it. Which ever style you prefer, pencil or dip, I highly recommend Anastasia products.

This mascara my friends, is the best in my book. I have used Maybelline Voluminous Original since high school and I’ve never looked back. I’ve tried a few more expensive brands but this brand and kind never fails. Plus it’s cheap so that makes everyone happy!

I’ve also used this bronzer since high school, only because I would steal and use my sisters makeup all the time. She would used this and it has great reviews, Benefit Hoola Bronzer.

I added most of my staple items in the photo, but I didn’t include my eyeshadow pallettes. I have multiple ones that I swap out daily. It all depeneds on my outfit really. What are some of your favorites? Or what are some dupes you all know? I love when you like a color for a MAC lipstick but you can find something similar for a lot cheaper! Any rituals you do while doing your makeup? I want to hear all about them!

Oh yeah, and if I had to choose who to root for during these playoffs, only because they are in my conference, I’m going to have to say the Vikings! I just don’t know if any of these teams going on to the next round are a worthy component against the Patriots.

Hope you all have a great long holiday weekend!

Real Talk

I burdens me, yet makes me thankful, to say this post was inspired by someone’s death, because that’s exactly what happened. I was scrolling through Facebook during the National College Championship and came across a post from a 27 year young woman from Australia who passed away recently due to a rare bone cancer. She happened to write a farewell letter, not because she was making her peace with death, but because she wanted to get her voice out to the world even if it meant her time was coming for the final goodbye. Her message was simple, yet spoke to me in a time in my life where my reality was setting in. This is where the title of this blog post comes into play.

I had this vision of starting this and possibly having some kind of reflection of other women I see that fill my feed on Instagram, but if I followed suit I would be living a lie. Yes, these posts are nice and a lot of them involve some kind of new clothes, style, or brand. These things do make many happy and it’s what people strive for. These things also pay the bills for people and are a life source. I understand these things fully. If that is what you seek here, I apologize but that is something I cannot give. I do not see that as an important factor in my life. I do enjoy the clothes I have, do not get me wrong. I’m very thankful to have things to clothe my back, which is more than some have. I am not the person who goes shopping consistently or every weekend. I could tell you right now I had Plato’s Closet deny my clothes because the label showed they were an older “series” of clothes. That’s because when I get clothes, I keep them for a long time, cycling the seasons. Then I donate whatever I realize I don’t wear.

Please don’t think I’m going to be judgey (not a word, but y’all understand)! I love how we can all be different and we’re all on our own journeys of life. Don’t get me wrong, I like looking at new outfits or different people’s style. I enjoy seeing it as much as anyone else sometimes, but I am explaining how DOING that is not me. I must be true to myself. I must be “ruthless for my own well being” which is what that woman wrote in her letter, and resonated with me.

So knowing that and if you continue reading, thank you :).

Today was a beautiful day in Colorado. Where I live, it was almost 70 degrees. With the amazing weather, for it being a week into January, the only thing I wanted to do was get outside. So I worked out (did shoulders), went hiking with my pup, played some baseball, then hit the tennis ball around for a little bit. Of course I finished that off by having a beer at a brewery. All in all, today was amazing. I enjoyed the moments as they came. My fiance was kind enough to catch some photos, but in all, I relished in the present, and I was thankful. It doesn’t need to be Thanksgiving for any self-reflection of what you see as important to you.

Much love everyone.

He’s a good boy.

Happy Football weekend everyone! During the half time of the first game, my pup and I decided to go for a walk. For anyone who wants to know he is a Basset Hound and his name is Dwight. 🙂

Who else has been filling their Sunday with Wild Card Weekend, and all the amazing junk food that goes along with it? My favorite is Buffalo Chicken Dip. I use Frank Red Hot’s recipe, I ALWAYS get compliments. (Link below!)(I use the crock pot to make it)

So along with this football weekend, I came down with the sickness! I’ve had a cold all weekend and it’s inhibited me on a few outdoor plans that friends tried to make. But it’s always best when your body tells you to relax and calm down that you listen to it. I hope anyone reading this is feeling well.

I come to understand there has been a bomb cyclogenesis that plagued the east side of the country. Of course I had NO idea what that word meant, I just saw the name and honestly laughed out loud. I thought some crazy stuff was about to happen. The main thing that confused me was how I got back over to Colorado before NYE and that’s when this weather bomb swept through and there is NO snow where I am at. There is a peak here that is over 14k ft and it had no snow on the peak! But the east coast saw some scary stuff, and they’re still seeing it!

Have you ever seen those meme’s of Michael Scott from the Office where he says “sometimes I have no idea where my sentences are going”….that’s how I feel this post is! haha!

The main point I wanted to get at is how cute my pullover fleece jacket is! My friend found it for me and it’s a perfect dupe for those Patagonia sweaters. It’s JUST as soft, and it was $12 (she did find it at Plato’s Closet), but it is a Free Country Fleece, and I just went on their website and they’re 50% off!

Free Country Fleeces

Like I mentioned above, it’s super soft, comfy, warm, and cute. Is it just me or does anyone else find more clothing options during the fall/winter? I love layering and anything soft this time of year.

I hope everyone had a great weekend! Hopefully you grew in someway, bettered yourself or caught some R&R (me, watching Workaholics cuddled up in a blanket and Kleenex)! Especially since tomorrow night is the College National Championships, and everyone may think Alabama will win. Which they very well may, but I’m going to go for the “underdog”. Let’s go Georgia Bulldogs!

Treat yo’ self

How many of my ladies (and guys) have a skin care regiment that they either learned from someone they admire, learned on their own, or swear by? Or even hair products they constantly use because it’s God’s gift to earths? For myself, it’s been a never ending cycle of trying new products. Pictured above are some of the main products I’m using currently. I am in the market for some new products too! So if you got any ideas, I’m all ears!

The makeup remover shown is legit! Warning, it’s on the expensive side, my fiance’s mom got it for me. Before I got the Lancome makeup remover I used the Neutrogena makeup remover, worked just as good for less than third of the cost. I’ve never had any complaints from either, only the Lancome is just more pricey. You can find both here :

So for myself, my skin is both oily & dry. I have to use a clear base cleanser but always put on a moisturizer afterward. Anyone else’s skin like this? For my facial cleanser, I found mind at CVS but I just found out that Ulta sells it! It lasts a long time and SO worth the price, $12! Which I love. A little bit goes a long way 🙂

Clearly you can see I’m almost out (haha!), I definitely plan on going back and buying this again!

Soap & Glory

Now on to hair! Ladies, and gents, though I’m sure any guys have left this post a while ago, I MISS MY LONG HAIR! This is how long my hair is now. 😦

IMG_5500

I got it cut two months ago. Don’t get me wrong though, it was severely needed. My ends were split and dead. The products shown are the main two I currently use. I have a different product for summer that involves some UVA/UVB protection. NORMALLY I like to use an oil, argan oil, for a consistent use, coconut oil and olive oil for hair masks. Just writing this post makes me realize the products that I’m lacking in.

No matter your skin type, or your hair type, we’re all dealing with our own specific journey so all we should do is spread the knowledge and love of our skin & hair habits. Who knows, you may find something that can change the game!
